Promoting Health, Education, and  Power-Building in the Latinx Community.

CONTACT

We work in coalition with many local organizations to increase resources for immigrants and advocate for inclusive policy and immigrant rights and protections.

Partnerships

We recognize the many assets in the Latinx community and focus on the power and voice of emerging Latinx leaders as we address health, education and economic opportunity inequities.

Focus

We hold regular listening sessions with the Latinx community in Contra Costa and prioritize strategies that emerge from these sessions and from our outreach in the community.

Community

HIGHLIGHTS

ULV works to improve the health of our community through advocacy, outreach and education, and partnership for health equity at the policy level. Through the efforts of our Community Promotores team, we assist community residents with education on health coverage options and hands-on enrollment. We have reached well over 3,600 immigrants in the last two years with information about accessing available health care programs and enrolled over 1,000 people in health care programs.

HEALTH

Community college interns serve as role models from similar backgrounds to at-risk high school students who don’t see themselves as ‘college material’ and connect  them to community college resources designed for academic success and resilience. Through culturally relevant peer-led presentations, as well as parent outreach and parent presentations, we have reached well over 1,000 Latinx high school students and influenced systems change at Diablo Valley college.

EDUCATION

Since 2024, ULV has worked with 12 emerging leaders who engage in numerous campaigns including advocating for immigrant rights and protections, access to healthcare, and education equity. They build their leadership by working side by side with seasoned advocates in campaigns such as the Concord Immigrant Protections Network (CIPN).

How can I get involved or support your efforts?

ULV is committed to developing emerging leaders from our Contra Costa County Latinx communities. Each year we offer up to six intern positions tied to one or more of our three campaign areas: Health, Education, and Civic Engagement. If you are interested, contact us at info@ulvccc.org and tell us about yourself and what draws you to ULV.

How can I get involved in ULV’s advocacy campaigns and leadership development initiative?

ULV inspires Latinx first‑generation high school students to see college as a real and achievable option. Many of our students work to support their families, face immigration‑related barriers, or have been made to feel they don’t belong in higher education. We believe these challenges make it even more important to connect students with role models who share their lived experiences. Through partnerships with our local community college, we introduce students to mentors and programs designed specifically to support Latinx academic confidence and success.  For more information please contact:  Raul Arana, Community Engagement Coordinator at raularanaulv@gmail.com  or Juan Gracida parent presentation facilitator at: 925 876-3366.

How do you support education?

For free information and assistance with hands-on enrollment assistance into State MediCal, the County Basic Health Care Program or the Kaiser Community Health Coverage Program please contact Dulce Bernal at 925 450-0858.
