Recent reporting has confirmed that Huerta—one of the most respected leaders in our community—endured sexual abuse by César Chávez during the 1960s, and that other women and girls were also harmed.
As a movement rooted in justice, dignity, and the protection of our communities, we honor Dolores Huerta’s bravery in breaking decades of silence. Her voice reminds us that no individual, no matter how historically celebrated, is above accountability. Survivors deserve to be heard, believed, and supported—always.
We also recognize the pain these revelations bring to many in our community. Moments like this call us to reaffirm our values:
We protect survivors.
We confront harm, even when it is difficult.
We continue the work of building a movement grounded in safety, equity, and respect.
